Overview

This infographic featurette was created for Air Canada to promote Kyoto as a high-end travel destination. The video highlights Kyoto’s rich cultural heritage, luxury experiences, and scenic landscapes, appealing to travelers seeking premium experiences. Through visually engaging motion graphics and elegant typography, the project aligns with Air Canada’s brand identity, positioning Kyoto as a must-visit destination for luxury travelers.

My Role - As a designer, I was responsible for developing the brand’s visual identity, designing a functional website prototype in Figma, and creating digital advertisements to promote the brand across various platforms.

Goals

The video needed to showcase Kyoto’s cultural landmarks, scenic landscapes, and luxurious accommodations while maintaining Air Canada’s premium brand identity. Through motion graphics, animated graphs, and visually compelling text, the featurette aimed to provide valuable insights into the best travel seasons, biodiversity, and must-visit locations. The project required a careful balance between informative content and aesthetic appeal, ensuring that the video not only educates but also inspires travelers. Additionally, all visual elements, including graphics, illustrations, and animations, were designed and created exclusively for this project.

Challenges

A key challenge in this project was maintaining smooth and simple transitions while delivering a wealth of information about Kyoto’s attractions, peak travel seasons, geography, biodiversity, and luxury accommodations. The video needed to balance clarity and engagement, ensuring that each segment flowed naturally without overly complex animations that could distract from the content. Keeping the visuals polished and informative while avoiding excessive complexity was essential to maintaining Air Canada’s premium and elegant brand aesthetic.

Deliverables

  • Storyboarding A detailed storyboard illustrating the key moments of the Kyoto motion graphic animation, focusing on cultural elements, transitions, and visual rhythm that align with the traditional and modern aspects of Kyoto’s identity.
  • Motion Graphics A short promotional video created in After Effects that highlights Kyoto’s cultural landmarks and activities, using elegant animations, typography, and color effects.
  • Design Assets Custom Mockups and Graphic elements designed in Illustrator and Photoshop to support the animation and maintain visual consistency with Kyoto’s aesthetic.
