Overview

TrailPoint Outdoors is an immersive retail experience crafted to connect customers with the great outdoors through an engaging, interactive environment. Inspired by Colombia’s Indigenous cultures, the brand name reflects gratitude for nature’s endless beauty and intricate details. The whole idea of working on this project was to give the shoppers new interactive experiences related to each other in which they get engaged with them and can find their needs, know about the products, and buy them without searching the store or asking any questions.

My Role - As the UI designer, I was responsible for shaping the visual direction of the interactive retail stations. This included designing layouts, choosing typography, crafting a cohesive color palette, and creating wireframes and prototypes. I ensured the design was accessible and aligned with the brand’s aesthetic to create an inclusive and memorable experience.

Goals

The goal of TrailPoint Outdoors is to develop a visually compelling, interactive retail experience that invites customers to connect with our apparel line. By integrating motion sensors, animations, and special effects, the installation seeks to enhance the in-store journey, reflect the spirit of outdoor adventure, and increase brand engagement and sales.

Challenges

Designing an immersive experience within limited space while maintaining comfort and accessibility was a key challenge. One of the core design hurdles was the consistent integration of the TrailPoint Outdoors motif — the "trail arrow" — across various digital and physical touchpoints. Ensuring this visual symbol remained subtle yet recognizable required creative placement and design restraint. Balancing interactivity with intuitive usability to cater to a wide audience, while maintaining visual and thematic consistency with TrailPoint’s branding, required thoughtful decision-making. Managing a multi-faceted project on a tight timeline also demanded seamless collaboration and workflow management.

Deliverable

  • Concept: A strategic concept that translates TrailPoint Outdoors' adventurous ethos into an immersive retail experience. This includes audience research, experience mapping, and a narrative journey across the interactive stations.
  • Brand Identity: A cohesive visual system including a logo, color palette, and typography inspired by nature and Indigenous symbolism—crafted to reflect TrailPoint’s values of exploration and connection to the outdoors.
  • Installation Design: Visual mockups and layout design for three retail stations—Interactive Catalogue, Rotating Product, and Touchscreen Ordering—each tailored to enhance user engagement.
  • Branded Content: Supporting assets such as motion graphics, apparel photography, iconography, and product tags that unify the retail space visually and emotionally.

360º Rotating App

The Rotating Product Station offers a touchless 360° product exploration experience using a Leap Motion controller. Users can swipe their hands in the air to rotate the backpack and explore it from all angles.

The interface is built from 24 high-quality, color-corrected product images and features four key stop points. At each, users can swipe up to reveal schematic-style highlight videos showcasing key features, and swipe down to return.

A looping screensaver video with instructions and visuals plays when idle, drawing users in. This hands-free setup enhances both accessibility and engagement through intuitive gesture-based interaction.

Dual-Screen Catalogue

The Dual-Screen Catalogue Station creates an intuitive and immersive browsing experience for users. Featuring a primary display - Catalogue Screen and a secondary touchscreen - Ordering Screen, it allows customers to explore product collections in detail, compare features, and view availability.

Users can scroll through curated product categories on the main screen while interacting directly with the touchscreen to view specifications, sizes, colors, and more. The catalogue is designed for easy navigation, enabling smooth transitions between product details and category overviews.

Promotional Videos

Explore the brand from multiple perspectives through three engaging promotional videos, offering customers a deeper understanding of its identity, values, and offerings. A built-in scanner at the front of the station allows users to simply scan a QR code or product tag to instantly trigger the corresponding video, creating an interactive and intuitive user journey.
